Although you will usually start off in more stable training boats, or with a coach in a 'double' with you, the goal will be to get everyone sculling confidently on "best boats" - these are the boats used by competitive rowers. Singles are about 26 ft long and doubles are 34 ft long. They are both under 18" wide. Singles weigh about 35 lbs and doubles...about double that. This means that anyone can carry them.
